Martyna’s concept of “auto-gaze” explores how we learn to see ourselves through an anonymous online audience, while algorithms decide what gets seen in the first place. Inside a towering hexagonal structure, performer and viewer become part of the same surveillance loop: watching, being watched, and scrolling through a reality built by algorithms.

Rotterdam-based multimedia artist Martyna Pekala creates surreal videos, digital collages and hybrid installations. Her practice explores how social media, algorithms and AI reshape the way we see ourselves and each other. Beneath the cute, camp, colorful toy-like aesthetics, lies a darker question: in a world obsessed with staying connected, are we actually becoming more isolated?
