L’État c’est moi is an experimental documentary where Johannes follows a group of “anarcho-capitalists” in their efforts to establish their own state, called Liberland. The fundamental idea is that the market can organise things better than politics. The Liberlanders reject the democratic system calling it slow, cumbersome and restricting of their freedom, but... is there a deeper reality behind their rejection?
German artist Johannes Büttner works with film and installation, speculative and science-based socio-economic topics, around alternative political and social systems. In order to sketch future scenarios, he approaches subcultural practices, DIY, counter-culture, and (urban-)mythes. These are all seen as prisms through which investigate larger claims surrounding ideology and belief.
