Fabricated Fears

Fenna dissects the visual language of the Dutch far right, exposing how carefully curated images can normalise exclusion, racism and anti-immigration ideas. Through photography, collage, essay-film and publications, Fenna Jensma pulls these images apart and puts them back together, revealing how the idealised image of the “innocent” white woman is used to manufacture fear, and justify violence.

During a three-week GOGBOT x Concordia Productielab residency, Fenna will rework and expand the project through conversations with four mentors with different expertise. Expect a fresh take and a work that is still evolving.

Dutch artist and photographer Fenna Jensma investigates how images shape our ideas about women, identity and society. With a background in journalism and years of experience as a picture-editor, she knows exactly how images are selected, framed and circulated. Her research-based practice hijacks that process, using photography and visual experiments to expose the power structures hiding in everyday imagery.
