Coenen & Werkhoven | Let's Step into the Innerverse

Arno Coenen and Rodger werkhoven join forces for a work that will breathe this years theme. Coenen is the creative brain and Werkhoven is the guy from the AI, to put it simply. Together they make a new ambitious work commissioned by GOGBOT: an AI drug infused space opera with techno music! This work will be insane!

Coenen’s fascination lies within the combining of things, like traditional techniques and video and 3D animation. He makes these languages crash and combine into something new and exciting. Leaning towards subcultural themes in which hooliganism, heavy metal and martial arts are never far away he is embedded in street culture. Now he looks into a more ‘high culture’ environment and turns it upside down. This trip into the world of opera on drugs is right up Coenen’s ally.

Commissioned by GOGBOT 23.

About

Coenen & Werkhoven

Arno Coenen has built a reputation with monumental artworks in public spaces, blending traditional crafts such as glass mosaic with contemporary computer graphics. Working together is at the core of his work, often collaborating with people from the neighborhoods in which his work is placed. As a result his work is liked by both public and commissioners. His contribution to the Markthal in Rotterdam was internationally acclaimed, and one of his tile tableaus was included in the collection of Rijksmuseum Amsterdam. His computer-generated video animations are included in important collections of media art, including the one of Centre Pompidou in Paris.

Rodger Werkhoven graduated in image and media technologie and was one of AI's early adopters. He specialized in working with AI and helped OpenAI developing their models, which laid the foundation for platforms as DALL-E 2 and ChatGPT. Currently he is working as Creative Director of iO Digital, and advises brands on how to implement AI in a creative and responsible way. His experience with AI is unmissable in creating the new AI opera with Arno Coenen.
